چکیده:
تشکیل قشون متحدالشکل توسط رضاخان تحولی اساسی و نوین در تاریخ ایران بود. اگرچه در پژوهشهای تاریخ معاصر بطور مفصل به نقش و عملکرد سیاسی و نظامی قشون رضاشاه پرداخته شده اما تاکنون هیچ کاوشی در اوضاع و شرایط داخلی ارتش و همچنین روابط و مناسبات موجود میان سربازان و درجهداران و افسران و امرای آن و نیز جایگاه اجتماعی آنان صورت نگرفته است. پژوهش حاضر برای نخستین بار درصدد است با تکیه بر منابع موثق بویژه روایات خود نظامیان و با استفاده از روش توصیفی- تحلیلی به بررسی وضعیت درونی ارتش بپردازد و روشن سازد که واقعه شهریور 1320 تا چه اندازه متاثر از وضعیت نظامیان بود. در این راستا پژوهش نشان میدهد برخلاف اقتدار ظاهری، ارتش در درون خود دچار معضلات و بحرانهایی جدی بود که از جملة آنها عدم امنیت جانی سربازان، ثروت اندوزی افسران، دزدی، ارتشاء و حتی انواع تجاوزات بود و اگرچه رضاشاه تلاش خود برای کنترل ارتش را به کار بست اما نه تنها توفیقی نیافت، بلکه در پارهای جهات خود مسبب اصلی مشکلات بود و افسران و امرای ارتش با اطمینان از حمایتهای او، به ثروتاندوزی، غارت، اختلاس، و چپاول اقدام کرده و تنها بخش محدودی از آنان از آموزههای وطنپرستانه برخوردار بودند، و در نتیجه این وضعیت، ارتش ایران به علت فقدان فرماندهان وطن پرست کافی نتوانست در شهریور 1320عملکرد قابل انتظاری از خود نشان دهد.
