Martha Graham is one of the founders of modern dance. She distanced herself
from classical ballet and created modern dance as a revolution against classical
ballet, and also expressed profound human emotion by creating a new language
of movement. Graham designed her style to make body of the dancers more
expressive and dramatic, as well as create visual images with the help of poetic
expressions. She borrowed ideas from animal movements, trips to the east, many
studies in music, philosophy, psychology, Greek myths, and so on. Graham sought
to dominate the unconscious through dance.
On the other hand, as avant-garde director and theatrical theorist Antonin Artuad,
he plots an idea called plague, and, citing Eastern theater and Bali dance, offers
a keyword called spontaneity. The concept of spontaneity refers to the moment
the event is performed in the sense that the actor reacts instantaneously and
instantaneously. This makes the movements of the actor new and pristine and
to avoid repetitive attacks. It is as if his first encounter with the event. Artuad
sought the root of this moment and instant reaction in the subconscious of the
human being and sought to reach the subconscious by invading the audience’s
senses and confronting the audience with its true self, Can attain self-cultivation
through catharsis. Artuad seems to regard acting as an intuitive and instinctive
area .
In this thesis, we attempt to examine Artuad’s perspective and focus on the
concept of spontaneity that he proposes to elaborate on Graham’s dance formation
features, techniques, and inspirations for his dance. The results of this study show
that there are similarities between the ideas of modern dance and acting and the
problem of spontaneity. We analyze. And we come to the conclusion that Graham’s
performances are spontaneous and instantaneous and that he is trying to convey
concepts to the audience by employing the body. And through the emotions to
reach their subconscious. It is descriptive and analytical and the method of data
