Liquidity is a necessity for well-functioning markets, modeling the joint distribution of liquidity and return in order to determine the dependency structure and commonalities for risk analysis is the focus of recent studies in liquidity. This study is performed on a portfolio composed of 15 stocks using intraday data to provide ample evidence of commonalities throughout the Tehran Stock Exchange at an intraday level. Thereafter univariate modeling of the stocks’ liquidity based on Autoregressive Conditional Poisson model (ACP), and also the returns with the Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroscedasticity (GARCH), and for the joint distribution of the liquidity and return marginals, due to the complexities of higher dimensions multivariate modeling a highly flexible Copula Vine model is applied. The findings of this study, based on high-dimensional high-frequency data, indicate that there is an extreme nonlinear correlation between the liquidity of the stocks and also between liquidity and returns across the portfolio, which is necessary to take into account in risk assessments to prevent the inaccurate assessment of risk indicators such as value at risk. In addition, results have shown that modeling the joint distribution of liquidity and stock returns in high dimensions relying on the Copula Vine model due to the flexibility performs well.
