One of the controversial issues of the commentators is the issue of the infallibility of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) which has been raised under many verses, including verse 2 of Surah Fatah. This verse explicitly states the existence of sin in the Holy Prophet, peace be upon him and his family. This article has applied the descriptive-analytical method of Tabatabai and Tabari, the commentators of the two sects, on the issue. As a result, although the two commentators have differences in principles, they believe in a different meaning of "sin" in the verse than in other verses. According to the context of the verses, Tabatabai returns the sin mentioned in the verse to the idea of the sin of the polytheists towards the Holy Prophet, peace be upon him and his family, and considers that forgiving it means erasing the effects of the enmity of the polytheists. Which is not entirely foreign to the literal meaning of sin. But Tabari, based on external evidences, such as the hadith and the order of asking for forgiveness to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) in verse 3 of Surah An-Nasr, interprets it as unrelated to the literal meaning, and as thanksgiving
