Abstract: An important part of the Illumination is dedicated to the frontispieces. After the arrival of the lithography industry in Iran, the process of designing the frontispieces, in addition to manuscripts, continued in lithographic books. The purpose of this study is to identify and introduce different styles of lithographic book frontispieces and present them in separate groups. This article has been done by descriptive and analytical method, and data for this article is collected from archival documents and library resources. Conclusion: In the first step, the frontispieces were identified based on whether the frontispieces have a traditional structure or are new and emerging, the frontispieces were divided into two groups, traditional and new, and then traditional frontispieces were divided into four distinct styles based on the general form of the frontispiece: 1- Inscription. 2- Crown .3- Rectangular-square. 4- pattern and half-pattern (naghsh va nim- naghsh). The new frontispieces were initially divided into two groups based on whether they had more embellishments or text. Typographic frontispieces were placed in the group of text-based, and the second group was divided into symbolic and illustrations frontispieces based on whether the motifs used in them are symbolic or not (non-symbolic motifs). Studies have shown that a significant number of lithographic books in that period were printed in printing houses in India, and therefore attention to the place of printing of books showed that styles such as inscription, crown shape (Taji), rectangular-square, and illustration, simultaneously in books printed in Iran and India have been used, While typographic style and symbolic style can be considered for books published in Iran and the pattern and half-pattern can be considered for Indian books.
