The aim of this study was to test a causal model of relationship of behavioral engagement, cognitive engagement with academic challenging with mediating role of hope, boredom and learning anxiety. For this purpose, 292 high school first year female students of Dezful city were selected by multiple stage clustered sampling. They completed academic challenging subscale of revised academic hardiness scale (2005), behavioral engagement subscale and cognitive engagement subscale of Tinio's Academic Engagement Scale (2009) and learning anxiety, boredom and hope subscales of Pekrun's Achievement Emotion Questionnaire (2002). After gathering data, the fitness of the proposed model was examined through path analysis and the indirect effects were tested by using bootstrap procedure. The results showed that cognitive engagement has a direct statistically significant effect on academic challenging and learning boredom but no direct effect on learning anxiety. Also, behavioral engagement has significant direct effect on learning anxiety, boredom and hope. The results suggested that behavioral and cognitive engagement with academic tasks with reducing the learning anxiety and increasing the learning hope can affect on the tendency of people to accept the higher education challenges.
