Purpose: With the expansion of globalization, not only the financial markets of developed countries but also the financial markets of developing countries have become interconnected. In financial discussions, the relationship between financial markets is referred to as financial contagion. The contagion of financial markets can transmit turbulence from one market to another and lead to prosperity, recession, or risk and return. Therefore, given the importance of contagion in markets for investors and decision-makers, the aim of this research is to investigate the effect of the dynamic contagion cycle between the future gold market and the exchange rate in the financial markets and the Tehran Stock Exchange.Methodology: Data was collected on a daily basis from March 7, 2009, to June 14, 2018. GARCH-BEKK, Markov switching, and vector autoregressive models were used to test the research hypotheses.Findings: The research findings indicate that the contagion effect of turbulence spreads from the foreign exchange market to the future gold market, and the contagion effect of turbulence from the foreign exchange market to the future gold market differs in different regimes.Originality / Value: The results of this research can provide new insights that may influence policymaking and decision-making in the financial industry.
