Reflection of the Iranian Model of Kingship in Idris Badlisi’s “Qanun-i Shahanshahi” Mohsen Marsalpoor 1 Assistant Professor, Department of History, University of Sistan and Baluchestan Date of Article Received: 2022/03/16; Date of Article Acceptance: 2022/04/06 Scientific-Research Abstract Idris Badlisi was one of the court officials of the Aq Qoyunlu dynasty who, after the rise of the Safavid government, took refuge in the Ottoman Empire and the court of Sultan Bayezid II.
The research findings show that Badlisi compiled “Qanun-i Shahanshahi” in the style of political ethics works, but in terms of content and political thought, by drawing on previous advice manuals such as Siyasatnama and Nasihat al-Muluk and adopting their political ideas, he extended the tradition of writing advice manuals around the Iranian model of kingship in the Ottoman Empire.
Therefore, since “Qanun-i Shahanshahi” has generally been neglected or received little attention in examining Badlisi’s intellectual biography, the present research devotes itself to examining the political thought of Idris Badlisi and the continuation of the tradition of writing advice manuals and the transfer of concepts and teachings of the Iranian model of kingship to the Ottoman Empire, with emphasis on the book “Qanun-i Shahanshahi.
In fact, it can be argued that although Idris Badlisi, as a religious scholar, undertook to write “Qanun-i Shahanshahi” and compiled it in the manner of ethical and Shari'a books, and filled it with arguments and poetic quotations, verses, and hadiths, due to his bureaucratic background, his political thought was largely influenced by the Iranian model of governance and the tradition of advice writing.
