چکیده:
This research examines the relationship between the locus of control of the mother (including three orientations: internal, powerful others, and chance) and the locus of control of the child with academic achievement (GPA). Four hundred male and female fourth-grade students in Tehran and four hundred literate mothers completed the Locus of Control Questionnaire (IPC) and the Novick-Strickland Locus of Control Scale. The results showed that in the GPA of students, the factors of external locus of control of the student, mother's locus of control with a chance orientation, and mother's locus of control with an internal orientation have a negative relationship with academic achievement, respectively. No relationship was found between the mother's external locus of control with a powerful others orientation and academic achievement.

4 loV The Relationship Between Mother and Child Locus of Control and Academic Achievement* Golrokh ShalooeiMaster of Educational Psychology Mehrnaz ShaharaeiAssistant Professor, Faculty of EducationTarbiat Modares University Abstract {IBIn this research, the relationship between mother’s locus of control (including three orientations: internal, powerful others, and chance) and child’s locus of control with academic achievement (GPA) was investigated.
Considering the impact of family – especially mother – on the growth of children’s personality and cognitive and motivational orientations, another objective of the research was to examine the relationship between mother’s locus of control (internal-external control source, with orientations towards chance and powerful others) and children’s academic achievement, and to determine the contribution of each of the mother’s locus of control and child’s locus of control variables in predicting academic achievement.
Some studies (Tomlinson, 1987; Maqsud5, 1983; Desanti & Alexander6, 1982; Perna7, 1983) have found a positive relationship between internal locus of control and academic achievement, while others (Hawerton & Lynn8, 1992; Nunn9, 1986) support a negative relationship between external locus of control and academic achievement.
Based on what has been said, since one of the goals of the present research is to predict a criterion variable (students' academic achievement) based on several predictor variables (students' locus of control, and their mothers' locus of control with internal, chance, and powerful people orientations), after performing calculations using the statistical software package for social sciences (+CP/SSPS), a summary of the results of the stepwise regression model is presented in Table 2.
