Memorizing the Quran, meaning committing its verses and surahs to memory, has always been a matter of great attention for Muslims from the time of the revelation of the Quran until now and has held high value and status. Forgetting the words of the Quran after memorizing it is also considered an undesirable matter. This belief sometimes goes so far that, based on certain narrations such as the prophetic narration 'Whoever learns the Quran and then forgets it will meet Allah with leprosy', the one who forgets the Quran is deemed deserving of punishment on the Day of Resurrection. The authors of this article, using the 'description and analysis' method to achieve a correct understanding of the aforementioned hadith, first examine the chain of narration of the hadith using hadith-scientific rules and criteria and present its flaws; then, with a look at the theories of commentators and scholars of hadith, they analyze the text of the hadith and unveil its correct meaning, which is a type of simile or metaphor.
