چکیده:
The lands of East Africa are among the most important regions that, from the very first years of the emergence of Islam, attracted the attention of Muslims and Shias. Islam was gradually introduced to the people of these regions by Muslim immigrants, who accepted it, and throughout the centuries, they have experienced various transformations. The Shia religion, alongside the blessed history of Islam, has an ancient presence in Tanzania. Migrant Shias, especially the Khoja Ithna Ashari Shias, who have a background in the history of Islamic India, have played an important and decisive role in the history and culture of Shiism in this country as indigenous migrants of East Africa. By taking advantage of the region's favorable climatic and economic conditions over many years (from the 19th century onwards), while stabilizing and strengthening their religious, cultural, and social positions and exerting significant influence in various fields of their residence, they have been the primary and most important factor in the expansion and promotion of the Shia religion among the black indigenous people of this country. By being present among the Shias of Tanzania and Zanzibar and conducting field studies of their situation, the author, in this writing, while recalling the glorious history of Shiism in these regions, examines the current status of Shias in this country, emphasizing the cultural and educational institutions of the Khoja Ithna Ashari Shias in the revival of this Islamic religion.
