Purpose: Today, thinkers and theoreticians of international relations believe that the military readiness of any system and government, which is achieved under the shadow of a powerful military organization, is one of the key elements of that system's national power. The Islamic Republic of Iran is not only not exempt from this rule, but its need for a powerful military institution is more than other systems due to the conflict of its goals and ideals with numerous foreign enemies. One of the most obvious aspects of de-institutionalization in the armed forces organization is the crime of desertion, which today has become an organizational problem and is considered one of the most common crimes in the armed forces, the occurrence of which is the result of several factors. Considering the importance of knowing and investigating these factors, in this article, the extra-organizational factors affecting desertion of employees in a military unit have been investigated.Method: The current research is a survey type and its statistical population is 150 employees of one of the military units who committed three or more desertions during their service. Library and field methods (using questionnaire) have been used in data collection.Findings: The results of the research showed that the desertion of employees originates from several factors, among the extra-organizational factors, in order: economic problems, emotional and family problems, lack of service motivation, marital status, geographical conditions of the place of service, age. And negative advertisements against the organization have had the greatest impact.Conclusion: According to the calculated results, the unit under study should pay attention to the factors identified in the present research in order of priority in order to avoid imposing costs on the organization due to employee desertion.

Therefore, the general goal of this research is to identify the reasons for the occurrence of this phenomenon, rank the effective criteria in this regard, and provide ways to prevent, reduce and control this phenomenon, and in this direction, the following hypothesis was formulated: "It seems that there is a significant relationship between the act of desertion by the personnel of the target military unit and external organizational factors such as: economic problems, emotional and family problems, lack of service motivation, etc.
