Although generally, both folklore experts and film researchers have neglected the study of the relationship between folklore and popular films and television programs, in this field, a limited number of articles and paradigms have been produced, the impact of which can even be observed in other fields of study. The present study is a critical review of the existing academic literature regarding the relationship between contemporary research in the field of folklore and popular films and television programs.

The study of popular cinema is important for folklore experts from several perspectives, and they have attempted to carry out works in this area and have even been able, at a superficial level, to observe and track the process of homogenization of cultural forms through mass media.
Sayer accuses her of several things: 1) lack of respect for the "integrity of original creatures", 2) misuse and popularization of the text to achieve her own goals; 3) failure to value "ethnographic or psychological truths of folklore"; 4) "presenting incomplete and defective film versions that are actually considered fragments of the original form"; and 5) "illustrating books with crude and offensive images in which all princes remain caricatures of Cary Grant 1; all princes have been turned into sexual symbols".
The goal of folklore researchers in examining popular texts produced by mass media is to identify traditional narrative types and motifs in films.
(1970: 256) Although Riesman was looking for the point of how non-written cultures use mass media as a substitute for oral culture, this article can be considered a beginning for studies in audience ethnography, which is increasing in popularity within the field of folklore.
Most research in this field includes the study of motifs and narrative genres present in popular television and narrative films (whether based on myth, story, or legend, and whether based on folkloric sources).
