چکیده:
This study deals with the role of historiography in preserving Iran's territorial integrity. The author believes that historiography in all periods of Iranian history has been a most important tool for preserving and reproducing Iranian territorial identity. It also strengthened the nationalism and has increased the importance of Iran's territorial integrity to elites and public opinion.
خلاصه ماشینی:
Although territorial integrity held no importance in terms of inclinations such as Sufism and was considered belonging to an insignificant homeland (Shafii Kodkani, 1352: 8), the fall of the Abbasid Caliphate and the formation of the Ilkhanid state within borders that more or less corresponded with the borders of Sassanid Iran, began a new stage for the completion of Iranian identity, which had started in cultural and then historical fields during the Samanid period and has now acquired a political dimension as well.
First, that the historiography of the Qajar period, like other political and social spheres of Iran during this period, came under the influence of ideas entering the country from Europe; for this reason, although in the first stage it continued its life with a traditional process, it gradually transformed and modern historiographical methods were also used by Iranian historians.
Although, in appearance, the historiography of the first period of Qajar rule is a continuation of the traditional historiographical flow of Iran's previous eras, where historical narratives were still presented with a focus on the court and without criticism or evaluation of sources, by placing events together without sufficient attention to their critical examination, Iranian historians, like other political and social spheres of Iran, were exposed to the influences of Western historiography (Nazeri, 1395: 97).
Historiography and the Territorial Integrity of Iran 139 The transformations that began in various fields during the Qajar era also introduced a new concept called nationalism into the sphere of thought of Iranian intellectuals.
