چکیده:
The present research was conducted to investigate the effect of sensory stimulation on improving motor skills (fine and gross) of trainable students with intellectual disabilities and developmental coordination disorder. The research method was experimental with a pre-test, post-test design and a control group. The population of this research included all trainable students with intellectual disabilities in Isfahan city during the elementary period, from whom 30 students with motor coordination disorder were screened using the Persian version of the Developmental Coordination Disorder Checklist among students with intellectual disabilities studying in special schools through multi-stage cluster sampling, and then randomly assigned to two groups: control and experimental. The tools of this research were the Lincoln-Ozeretsky Motor Development Scale and the Developmental Coordination Disorder Checklist (Salehi et al., 2011). Data were analyzed using Multivariate Analysis of Covariance (MANCOVA). The findings showed that the sensory stimulation intervention method was effective in improving the motor skills of these children (p < 0.001). The results of this research showed that the sensory stimulation intervention method was effective in improving the motor skills of trainable students with intellectual disabilities and developmental coordination disorder; therefore, the use of this method is suggested as a method for improvement and rehabilitation of this disorder.
