Assessment is a tool for benefiting from the useful effects of various teaching methods and also finding a suitable means to measure the level of language learners' acquisition. In recent years, great emphasis has been placed on the importance of 'self-assessment'. Researchers believe that in the field of language learning, one of the problems of learning is being unaware of them. As Dornyei (2001) emphasizes, self-assessment allows language learners to realize their mistakes and participate actively in their own learning process. Consequently, it will bring them success. Self-assessment makes learners autonomous and independent. In fact, self-assessment is a method for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting information to make decisions regarding students' actions. Teachers can play an important role in helping language learners assess and improve their abilities. They can use assessment to identify students' problems, provide appropriate feedback regarding learners' actions, and plan their educational programs accordingly. To this end, this article first examines research conducted in this field and then provides solutions to teachers to increase learners' awareness of their mistakes and to use the self-assessment method in the classroom.
