The subjects of the study completed a questionnaire prepared for this purpose; after extracting the responses, factors related to the student, teacher, content, physical classroom environment, and additional factors (other factors) were identified.
Due to the importance and role of attention in learning and teaching, this research has attempted to investigate the factors affecting student inattention in the classroom environment and during instruction, be investigated.
To achieve this goal, first, four factors that were identified based on previous studies and experiences were considered as major and effective factors in student inattention, as follows: individual factors, teacher-related factors, content-related factors, and classroom physical environment-related factors.
Subjects Since no standardized questionnaire existed in this field, inevitably, the research work was carried out in two stages; the first stage, using a questionnaire containing open-ended questions, from students and teachers, the factors of inattention were inquired, and in the next stage, the results obtained from this preliminary investigation were used to prepare the main and final questionnaire.
The questionnaires contained questions regarding various dimensions of attention and inattention, and the factors affecting student inattention in four important dimensions—which were investigated in this research—such as factors related to the student, the teacher, course content, and the physical environment of the classroom.
Analysis of the obtained information, using frequency and percentage (responses over 60 percent), showed that a total of 78 factors are effective in the inattention of high school students.
1 percent of teachers considered student density and the smallness of the classroom space as effective factors in inattention.
