The paradigm of sustainability and sustainable development has become a central focus of discussions in many scientific disciplines, especially in the last decade. Despite the consensus on the main elements of this subject, measuring the state of sustainability is considered one of the fundamental challenges of the discussion. Perhaps the existence of different intellectual perspectives and theories is one of the reasons for such a situation, but it seems that the lack of specific and definite criteria for explaining the state of sustainability is a more acceptable reason. Therefore, presenting the characteristics and features of sustainability assessment indicators forms the main axis of the subject discussed in the present article. Initially, various theories regarding assessment and sustainability are briefly presented, and then the principles and methods of sustainability assessment are briefly discussed. Subsequently, with an emphasis on the principles and goals of sustainable development and using the documentary method, we proceed to design sustainability identifiers. An important point that, despite its necessity, does not have the opportunity for discussion in the article, is the relativity of sustainability concepts and criteria in different human communities. Can an important category such as sustainability be assessed in all human communities with a series of specific identifiers and indicators?
