The city of Shushtar has always been considered one of the important cities of Iran since the Sassanid era, and throughout history, brilliant figures in the worlds of science, thought, jurisprudence, etc., have emerged from it. Among these greats was the renowned scholar, Ali bin Husayn Najjar, who lived in the eleventh century, and later his children and descendants reached much higher levels in science and asceticism. Among them, the late Sheikh Ja'far Shushtari is considered a master of all jurisprudential and legal sciences of his time and one of the great celebrities of the Shia world. In this article, with reference to the historical background of the city of Shushtar and the introduction of some of its greats and scholars, the illustrious lineage of Sheikh Shushtari—up to the present day—is introduced.

Many articles, treatises, and books have been printed and published by Dr. Muhammad Ali Sheikh; the most important of which are as follows: 1- A research on the thoughts of Ibn Khaldun; which has reached its third edition so far; 2- An interpretation and selection from the Muqaddimah of Ibn Khaldun (three editions); 3- The foundations of Illuminationist philosophy from Suhrawardi's perspective; 4- Al-Nusus al-Tarikhiyya (three editions); 5- Translation of the book Qada' al-Amir al-Mu'minin Ali bin Abi Talib (peace be upon him); the original of which is in Arabic and is among the teachings of his venerable father.
