The first level of all written works، without which we are unable to understand a text appropriately and accurately، is language. Thus، all writers in different scientific disciplines argued about linguistic issues and questions in their works، especially in cases that the subject of work was connected with technical and rhetorical aspects. One of the greatest works of Persian literature in poetics and rhetoric is al-Mo’jam fi Ma’ayir-e Ash’ar al-Ajam of Shams Gheys-e Razi، in which the writer argues about the linguistic and lexical topics، especially the structure and derivation of some words. Due to considerable developments and improvements of historical linguistics in the late centuries we can analyze these ideas with more attention. In this article، I want to investigate the derivations that Shams Gheys explained in his work by using linguistic and grammatical criteria and demonstrate accuracy and inaccuracy of them.

One of the most important works of the Persian language composed on the subject of rhetoric and literary arts is Al-Mu'jam fi Ma'ayir Ash'ar al-Ajam by Shams Qays Razi, in which the author has addressed linguistic and lexical topics at appropriate places, particularly expressing views on the structure and derivation of certain words.
Among Persian authors, "Shams Qays Razi" is also among those who, in his valuable and incomparable book "Al-Mu'jam fi Ma'ayir Ash'ar al-Ajam," which is written on the subject of prosody, rhyme, and rhetoric, has addressed the discussion of word derivation in many cases, in proportion to the existing topics and in line with the effort for further and better explanation.
Sometimes he brings up his own specific views regarding orthography (for example, see: Shams Qays, 1373:200), and sometimes he refers to points that awareness of which can assist us in the correct pronunciation of words and make us aware of certain issues related to the history of the Persian language.
What is found in dictionaries and the works of linguists also confirms the words of Shams Qays; the author of Burhan writes in explaining this word: "Dastur, with a fatha on the first letter, on the meter of mastur, means minister and secretary, and it also refers to permission and authorization, and is also one who has authority/hand...
