To forge the ties necessary in safeguarding its national interests, Republic of Korea has taken an active role as a donor country in the region within the framework of the United Nations, especially in regards to donating help to the Palestinian Autonomous Authority.
Seoul follows a long term strategy in the Middle East and is of the opinion that political relations strengthen economic ties and vice versa, the fact being that Korea does merely regard the region as a market for Korean goods but also a major supplier of its energy needs.
Relations with very diverse countries in the region ranging from Iran to Saudi Arabia, to Kuwait, to the United Arab Emirates have not been disturbed or spoiled by Iraq problem and it seems that the regional states regard Korea for its face value-could it be because of the economic nature of cooperation?
The cooperative relations between the two countries are very active with Iran occupying a pivotal position for Korea's presence in the Middle East.
