· The manuscript comprises only two leaves and is written in English on 17th or rSth century paper, the construction having clearly marked features of being a literal translation from some Arabic work.
Although the style of the translator (following the Arabic rather slavishly it would seem) reveals a striking similarity to that of al-Isfahani, the author of the Kitdb al-Aghdni al• Kabir, the passages cannot be traced in this work ; but since the musicians mentioned all lived prior to the late roth century the work is possibly one of the popular treatises mentioned in the Fihrist (Fann 3 of Maqala 3).
