Abstract:
The pilgrimage is one of the basic religious teachings. Visiting sacred places
and tombs of righteous people and immaculate imams (a.s) places is emphasized
in Shia traditions. Ziyarah enjoys a significant role in mental health.
Those who continue this practice possess a higher mental stability and when
they face a conflict enjoy a greater ability to solve them. Pilgrimage from
different directions plays a role in mental health. One of the most important
psychological effects of pilgrimage is creating hope for the pilgrims. Having
a calming sanctuary hopes the pilgrims that the problems will be soleved. Another
role of Ziyarah in mental health is a psychological discharge. Pilgrimage
and Ziyarah provides the proper ground for mental discharge for pilgrims and
pilgrims with a sense of security can discharge sorrow and problems. One of
the other roles of making Ziyarah in mental health is achieving high self-esteem.
The pilgrimage creates a feeling inside pilgrim that he/she is taken into
consideration and invited to visit. This feeling gives pilgrims self-esteem believing
that in this world there are still those who like him/her.
