Abstract:
Wilayat is a term that has been discussed in many works of Sufis; nevertheless, research into the works of Sultan Mohammad Ganabadi, titled Sultan Alishah, an Imami mystic of the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, shows that in his works he has addressed new meanings of Wilayat in the realm of mysticism and Sufism. According to him, the term Wilayat, which is frequently used in the hadiths narrated from the Prophet of Islam and the Shia Imams (peace be upon them), refers to one of the following three meanings: 1. The allegiance (Bay'ah) customary among Sufis and the 'hand-shaking' (Dast dadan) that is common among them; 2. The celestial form of the Imams (peace be upon them) in the heart of the seeker, which in verses and narrations has been interpreted as faith, tranquility (Sakina), and gnosis (Ma'rifat) of luminosity; 3. The state resulting from the appearance of the aforementioned form, which consists of submission and obedience towards the aforementioned Imams (Ulu al-Amr) and servitude towards God.
