Abstract:
The Tugh is one of the religious banners that is worthy of research from various ritual, religious, ethnographic, and artistic aspects. Especially the inscriptions on the Tughs, which predominantly include Surahs, Quranic verses, Asma al-Husna, the names of the Fourteen Infallibles, Salawat Kabira, and other supplications, can present their general orientations, which are mostly based on petitioning, glorification and remembrance of God, remembering the Infallibles, seeking aid and victory, and the ideals of Shiism. These Tughs are mainly relics from the late Safavid period to the early Qajar period.
Machine summary:
The inscriptions mainly include Quranic surahs and verses, the names and attributes of God, the names of the Infallibles, Salawat Kabira, supplications, and occasionally Persian poems in praise and eulogy of Imam Hussain (AS).
The inscriptions of these tughs can be generally divided into five categories: Quranic verses, the names of God and saints and supplications, Persian poetry and endowment deeds (waqf-nameh), and the date of construction.
Additionally, a verse in praise of Imam Husayn appears on the flag of the Hosseiniyeh Tuye-deh Nushabad as well as on the Tug of the Chahar-Derakht Mosque: O light of the eyes of Ahmad Mukhtar!
