Abstract:
the book ethbāt al-nabovvat al-nabī moḥammad by ahmad ibn hussein ibn harun, known as al-muayyed bellah haruni, is authored by a well-known imam of the zaydi sect in the fourth century in northern iran. the author lived in a time when the discussion of proving the prophethood of prophet muhammad (pbuh) had sparked a wave of writings on the subject in the field of prophetic biography. this research examines the historiographical dimensions of al-muayyed bellah haruni in this book and seeks to understand how his religious identity has influenced his historiography. the findings indicate that despite his religious position as a jurist and zaydi imam, he exhibited a significant historical perspective in writing ethbāt al-nabovvat al-nabī moḥammad. this is evident in his attention to historical elements, the possibility of events occurring, the absence of a chain of narrations, and the substantiation of his analyses. considering the rational proof of the miracle of the quran according to the mu'tazila method, as well as al-muayyid bellah's perspective on the signs of prophethood before the prophet's (pbuh) mission and the types of miracles attributed to him, one can conclude that his analytical approach in writing this book is influenced by his mu'tazeli thoughts
Machine summary:
Given the rational proof of the inimitability of the Quran according to the Mu'tazilite method, al-Mu'ayyad bi-Allah's perspective on the signs of prophethood before the mission of the Prophet (saw), and also the types of other miracles he enumerates for the Prophet (saw), his analytical approach in writing this book can be considered influenced by his Mu'tazilite thoughts.
Al-Sakhawi, in al-I'lan bi-al-Tawbikh liman Dhamma Ahla al-Tarikh, which is one of the most detailed works on the bibliography of Islamic history, mentions among the books written on the subject of the Prophet's (saw) biography, works titled Dala'il al-Nubuwwah, of which the book Ithbat Nubuwwat al-Nabi (saw), written by Ahmad ibn Husayn ibn Harun Aqta', known as Imam al-Mu'ayyad bi-Allah al-Haruni, one of the famous Zaydi Imams in northern Iran in the fourth and early fifth centuries AH, is one of them (Al-Sakhawi, 1407: 153-156).
Ithbat al-Nubuwwat al-Nabi, al-Tajrid, al-Da'wah, Siyasat al-Muridin, al-Amali, al-Bid'ah fi al-Fiqh, Sharh al-Tajrid, Naqd al-Imamah, Ali ibn Qubba al-Amali, I'jaz al-Qur'an fi 'Ilm al-Kalam, al-Tabsirah fi al-Usul, al-Hasir li-Fiqh al-Nasir, Risalah Jawab Qabus fi al-Ta'n 'ala al-Sahaba, Diwan Shi'r, Ta'liq Ziyarat Ali Sharh Qadi Abd al-Jabbar, Ma'ani al-Qur'an, and the book Man Nusrat Madhhab al-Zaydiyyah (Sezgin, 1380: 1/829; al-Wajih, 1439: 1/109-110) Another aspect of al-Mu'ayyad bi-Allah's scientific-religious personality is his being a Mu'tazilite.
Given that these works are formed based on the miracles and signs of the prophethood of Prophet Muhammad(s) and each author has written their book according to the theological or hadith school they belong to, al-Mu'ayyad bi-Allah's work, considering that he was a Zaydi Imam, reflects the Zaydi perspective in this discussion.
