Abstract:
In the present era, on one hand, the recitation of Asim bin Abi al-Najud via the narration of Hafs bin Sulayman has become widespread in many Islamic lands, and on the other hand, it has been claimed that the chain of this recitation is connected to Ali (AS) through Abu Abd al-Rahman al-Sulami. From a historical perspective, it is necessary to ask what evidence can be found for this connection of the chain; is the chain of Hafs's recitation from Asim a ceremonial and fabricated chain created to make this recitation appear connected and to distinguish it from other recitations, or does it truly indicate the accurate transmission of this recitation from the era of the Prophet's (PBUH) companions to subsequent eras? To this end, in the present study, we will evaluate the authenticity of the chain of this recitation relying on various historical evidences; evidences that are obtained from biographical (Rijal) statements regarding the conditions of the narrators, the status of the narration in terms of uniqueness and conflict with other narrations, the general approach to accepting or rejecting a reciter and narrator, the multiplicity of teachers and narrators of the reciters, and the general conditions prevailing in the era of the reciters.

Based on this path, Abu Amr al-Dani narrates that from Faris bin Ahmad, Faris from Abdullah bin Husayn bin Hasnun, Abdullah from Muhammad bin Ahmad bin Muhammad bin Shan Budh, Muhammad from Salt bin Shan Budh, and Salt also from Abu Shu'ayb Qawwas — one of the students of Hafs — they have narrated such that he said: Asim said to me, the recitation that I recited to you is the same recitation that Abu Abd al-Rahman al-Sulami recited to me from Ali (a.
In an attempt to answer these questions, we will first review the reports regarding the personalities of Hafs and Asim, then the personality of Shu'bah — the other narrator of Asim's recitation — and finally, we will present the reports related to Abu Abd al-Rahman al-Sulami and his sheikhs and students, so that in this order, the chain connection of Hafs's recitation to Ali (a.
It has been narrated from him that he said: (Refer to the page image) Based on this report, Shu'bah considered Asim to have only one recitation, which he took from Abu Abd al-Rahman al-Sulami and presented to Zurr bin Hubaysh.
As we mentioned, it has been reported that Hafs attributed his narration of Asim's recitation to Abu Abd al-Rahman al-Sulami from Ali (as), and Shu'bah's narration to Zirr bin Hubaysh from Ibn Mas'ud.
Following this same narration, it is said on the authority of Abu Abd al-Rahman al-Sulami that the recitation of Zayd bin Thabit and Ali (as) had no difference with each other except in one verse of Surah al-Baqarah (ibid, 1/259).
