Abstract:
Ibn al-Haytham can be considered one of the most important scholars whose theory of aesthetic perception focuses on the visual qualities and structures necessary in artistic works. Therefore, it is essential to study his theories in the field of aesthetics. The Goharshad Mosque in Mashhad, a masterpiece of the Timurid era, is an unparalleled and eye-catching collection of the interplay and companionship of light and color exists outside the illumination of light. According to Ibn al-Haytham's views, 22 factors are perceived by the eye, with light and color being at the forefront, as these two are the results of the sense of beauty. This article aims to examine how these two factors are applied in the tilework art of the Goharshad Mosque. The theoretical method of this article is based on the Islamic philosophical theories of Ibn al-Haytham, who places great emphasis on the concept of light and color and believes that these two factors together can create beauty. The research method is applied in terms of purpose and descriptive-analytical in terms of implementation, with information obtained through library studies. The results indicate that beyond the sense of vision and the perception of light and color, there exists something more: a perception that is formed by the intellect and imagination, and which, from Ibn al-Haytham`s perspective, is comprehended through the internal senses.
