Abstract:
Religious language is one of the branches of the philosophy of religion in the contemporary era. From the perspective of philosophers of religion, there are two views in the analysis of religious language: in one view, religious propositions are considered only to refer to values, actions, and the expression of a believer's feelings (non-realist), and in the other view, religious propositions refer to reality and are descriptive of facts (realist). Given this point and the position of Nahj al-Balagha among Islamic sects, this writing attempts to prove the realism of the language of Nahj al-Balagha using a descriptive-analytical method. The intention of the realism of the language of Nahj al-Balagha is that the speaker of Nahj al-Balagha intends to speak of reality, and the contents of the propositions of Nahj al-Balagha correspond to reality. In other words, by considering the two components of the intention to speak of reality and correspondence with reality, we have moved the realism of propositions beyond mere propositional truth and given it a conceptual expansion. To realize this claim, we have utilized rational arguments and illustrative examples from the text of Nahj al-Balagha (transmitted evidence).
Machine summary:
3-1 Necessity of Research Given that the goal of Ali ibn Abi Talib (AS) in composing the sermons, writing the letters, and stating the wisdoms of Nahj al-Balagha was the guidance of humans and audiences, the proof of the reality-representation of the language of Nahj al-Balagha can be considered evidence of the realization of His (AS) guiding goal.
Paying attention to the stage-by-stage needs of the audience on an individual scale and their cognitive requirements on a social scale, in order to provide the necessary foundation for the growth and transcendence of humans and society, is among the other consequences of proving the reality-representation of the language of Nahj al-Balagha.
Therefore, in the present writing, while paying attention to the meaningfulness and epistemological nature of the propositions of Nahj al-Balagha, the intention of truth-telling and reality-representation of the propositions is also considered.
Therefore, in the first step, to recognize the language of Nahj al-Balagha, the rational principle of 'Zuhur' (manifestation) and the recognition of the speaker in the words of the Prophet (PBUH), Imam Ali (AS), Muslim and non-Muslim thinkers has been utilized.
Furthermore, the analytical and argumentative approach of His Eminence (AS)—in other words, the application of the language of logic and reasoning in expressing the contents included in Nahj al-Balagha—can be considered evidence of its realism and truthfulness.
Based on the logical connection between the characteristics and their positional effects, the aforementioned phrase can be considered an example of the truthfulness and realism of the language of Nahj al-Balagha.
