After the occurrence of the tragedy of Karbala and the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS), Iranians, inspired by their rich culture, were able to display greater manifestations of Ta'ziyeh in mourning the Imam and left such an impact on their audience that, with the passing of centuries since that time, the suffering and pain of Imam Hussain remained alive to form the basis of Shiite belief.
" Alongside the deep belief of Iranians in the philosophy of the sufferings of Imam Hussain (AS) and the epic of Karbala, another element was needed so that Ta'ziyeh could transform from a form of ceremony and ritual into a full-fledged religious drama, and that element was the formation of Iran as a Shiite country.
Ta'ziyeh can be considered the result of several factors, which include: the political motive of breaking free from the dominance of unjust governments, the events of the Karbala desert and the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS), Daste-gardani, Shabih-gardani, Sineh-zani, Noheh-khani, Rawda-khani, and pre- Islam customs such as "Kian Siavash" and theatrical plays and traditional-ritual ceremonies of Iran (ibid: 51-52).
