Abstract:
Discourse analysis, as a linguistic approach within the social sciences, examines how the works of writers are linked to the social environment and how this environment influences their methods and styles. The discourse of committed and social literature is a well-known discourse in the field of contemporary literature; in this article, using the theories of Laclau and Mouffe, we analyze and examine the causes of its formation and Akhavan's approach in defending this discourse. The research results show that the entanglement and link between literature and society cause Akhavan, as a subject, to be positioned in a state of subjectivity under the influence of linguistic and non-linguistic discursive functions and the post-discursive power resulting from social, cultural, and political events in the relevant historical context. By creating crisis and deconstruction in rival discourses (New Wave, individual romanticism, and formalist literature) and understanding the empty signifiers of non-self discourses (the attention and commitment of literature to people and society), he proceeds to stabilize his own discursive system. In the semantic system of his own discourse, he considers society and its needs (independent variable) to include art and literature (dependent variable). By emphasizing the central signifier of his own discourse, he defines other floating signifiers (art, artist, ghazal, poem, and poet) and attempts to strengthen his own discourse and weaken non-self discourses through strategies of marginalization, emphasis, and othering.
Machine summary:
The linguistic and non-linguistic discursive characters effective in the shaping of the discourse of committed and social literature in the views of poets and artists, including Akhavan, are as follows: - The entanglement and connection of society and literature and the reflection of social and political issues in poetry: The entry of social and political themes into the realm of literature began during the Constitutional era, and the social and political environment of Iran harnessed poetry to its service and introduced new concepts into the field of literature.
Based on what has been stated, the formation of the discourse of committed and social literature in Akhavan's view, based on the historical context in which he lived, and based on the theory of Laclau and Mouffe, is due to the following factors: - Cultural and literary factors, as well as political and social events and their resulting effects on the realm of art and literature, led to the publication and production of numerous works in the form of articles, poems, stories, and translations of literary works in the field of committed and social literature, which are presented as the power behind the discourse to prove and establish hegemony in the literary community and influence the thought and intellect of the artists and poets of this period.
