Abstract:
The flow of urbanization development in Iran has occurred with a century's delay compared to industrial societies. One of the important challenges for urban designers is having a city consistent with the principles of smart growth and urban dimensions on a human scale, meaning principles that, while respecting and protecting the natural environment, use limited resources optimally and provide an environment for human life alongside other components of an ecosystem. These principles are best embedded within the framework of sustainable development. The structure of urban management in Iran, in order to move away from a centralized system and toward a decentralized one, must inevitably undergo a transformation in the planning system and accept urban sustainable development challenges as a fundamental solution. Achieving management means formulating policies to attain sustainable cities, which makes a real sustainable state in cities necessary. Today, cities, as the main consumers and distributors of goods and services, have become the focus of sustainability discussions to reduce problems. Therefore, they require optimal management to effectively create justice, strengthen social and cultural services, and foster the spirit of citizen participation. For this reason, important concepts under the title of sustainable development have gained attention, such that in recent decades, achieving sustainable urban development has become one of the essential pillars of sustainable development. This article examines a clearer expression of the relationship between sustainable development and urban management. The research method of this article is descriptive-analytical, and data collection was conducted through library and field methods. The results of the research show that urban management has a positive and significant impact on achieving the sustainable development of cities.
