Abstract:
This article is a library and descriptive article written based on the opinions of thinkers and experts. The teaching of life skills began in 1979 with the actions of Dr. Gilbert Botwin, where one of the goals and necessities of teaching life skills is to create mental health at its highest level and to prevent social harms. Life skills are classified into ten categories, and the goal is to become familiar with these skills for the purpose of teaching them. The results of this article show that the main goal of these skills is to prevent social harms and promote the level of mental health.
Machine summary:
Various studies conducted by Matson, Fee, and Smith (2008) after implementing life skills training programs in schools show the impact of this training on various dimensions of adaptation and mental health.
They found that life skills and social skills training had a positive effect on increasing problem-solving ability, self-awareness, and reducing anger, anxiety, depression, shyness, and crisis, while increasing assertiveness.
Psychologists have recently concluded, while examining mental disorders and social deviations, that many disorders and damages are rooted in individuals' inability to correctly and appropriately analyze themselves and their situations, a lack of sense of control and personal competence for facing difficult situations, and an unreadiness to solve life's problems and issues in an appropriate manner; therefore, given the increasing changes and complexities of society and the expansion of social relations, preparing individuals, especially the adolescent and young generation, to face difficult situations seems necessary (Tarmiyan, 1999).
Theoretical Positions Regarding Life Skills Scientific findings testify that mental health is one of the most important modern needs, and to fulfill it, an individual must know themselves precisely, be able to understand others and establish effective relationships with them, identify their own negative emotions and daily stresses and bring them under control, solve their problems effectively and make appropriate decisions, and furthermore, not think stereotypically and not accept information without processing it.
Conclusion The main goals of the life skills training program are to prevent social harms and improve the level of mental health of society members.
