Abstract:
The importance and necessity of turning towards participation and participatory development is reflected in thoughts and theories, as well as in the efforts of international and national organizations and institutions, especially in the third world, such that it can be considered in the field of urban issues and urban management. This study, with the aim of identifying social factors affecting citizen participation in urban affairs, was conducted using a survey method and a questionnaire tool with a statistical population of 0 people aged 18 to 95 in the city of Shahrekord. The validity of the measurement tool was face validity. To measure reliability, Cronbach's alpha coefficient was used, and since this coefficient was higher than 0.7, the questionnaire possessed acceptable reliability. The results indicated that the variables of citizen satisfaction (0.37 <), motivational policies (-0.29/3), social trust (-0.61), and the type of municipality activity (0.67/3) had a significant relationship with people's participation, and among the contextual variables, a correlation existed only between age and citizen satisfaction. According to the research findings, the overall status of citizen participation was at a medium-to-low level, and this is mostly due to the low level of the objective dimension of citizen participation in urban life.
