Abstract:
The present research was conducted with the aim of investigating the direct and indirect role of the five dimensions of personality on the quality of life of cardiac patients. The present study is descriptive (correlational) in nature. The statistical population of this research consists of all coronary artery patients who visited the specialized cardiology and vascular clinic of Al-Zahra Heart Hospital in Shiraz in the summer of 2013. The research sample consists of 175 people who were selected through convenience sampling and completed the NEO personality and quality of life questionnaires. To examine and analyze the data, descriptive and inferential statistics (Pearson correlation coefficient, stepwise regression) were used. The data were analyzed using SPSS 19 and Lisrel statistical software. The results showed that there is a significant negative relationship between the five dimensions of personality (neuroticism, extraversion) and quality of life.

Keywords: <Keyword>personality dimensions, quality of life, cardiac patients </Keyword> Introduction Cardiovascular diseases 1 are recognized as the leading causes of mortality in developed and developing countries (Sol, Vander Graaf, Guenz and Western 2, 2008).
Coronary artery disease not only affects the comfort and happiness of the patient but also influences social relationships, lifestyle patterns, occupation, income level, and overall quality of life (Westin 1997, 4).
The main hypothesis of the research is presented in the form of a causal structural model, through which the five personality factors can affect the quality of life of cardiac patients by shaping it.
Sub-hypotheses: ــ There is a significant negative correlation between the level of the neuroticism personality trait and the quality of life of cardiac patients.
In order to test the sub-hypotheses of the research, or in fact, to predict the quality of life based on the predictor variables of neuroticism and extraversion, stepwise regression was used, the results of which are presented in Table No. 2.
