Abstract:
Semiology is a system of codes that can be understood by style of phrases. Due to an artistic and aesthetics structure، a literary text has a complex system in such a way that one symbol denotes several meanings. The Quran as superior of artistic texts، pays much attention to describing speech and treatment of characters in such a way that an addressee would imagine the character alive on the stage. The character of woman، who is the main element of the story، has played an important role in the stories of the Quran. Delving into the characters of women in the Quran would reveal the concealed dimensions of their characters. However، some of these characters remain ambiguous; therefore، symptoms and codes can help the reader to understand the concealed dimensions of their character. Marry is the only woman whose name is directly mentioned. We can see some portions of her life in Suras of Ale_emran، Nesaa، Maa'ede، Maryam، Anbi'aa، Mo'menun، and Tahrim. The various usage of symbols in the text، act of treatment، act of speech، and performance are noticeable in the function of symbols. Therefore، we can reach a comprehensive insight of the characters through the mentioned elements.
Machine summary:
4 Relying on Quranic Descriptions God calls Mary, the daughter of Imran, a chaste woman and emphasizes this attribute of hers twice in verse 91 of Surah Al-Anbiya and verse 12 of Surah At-Tahrim: ﴿ والَّتِي أَحْصَنَتْ فَرْجَهَا فَنَفَخْنَا فِيهَا مِن رُّوحِنَا ﴾ * ﴿وَمَرْيَمَ ابْنَتَ عِمْرَانَ الَّتِي أَحْصَنَتْ فَرْجَهَا﴾ * ﴿وَ الَّتي أَحْصنَت فَرْجَهَا فَنَفَخْنَا فِيهَا مِن رُّوحِنَا وَ جَعَلْنَهَا وَ ابْنَهَا ءَايَةً لِّلْعَلَمِينَ﴾ (Al-Anbiya/91) In this verse, Lady Maryam is mentioned before her child, who is one of the divine prophets, and both of them are introduced as an 'ayah' (sign) and a symbol from God for all people.
(Najafian, 1389 SH: 184) Therefore, Lady Maryam (AS) and her child, Jesus, are a sign and a miracle from the One God, and in verse 21 of Surah Maryam, Jesus (AS) alone is introduced as an ayah and a mercy: ﴿ قَالَ كَذَلِكِ قَالَ رَبُّكِ هُوَ عَلَيَّ هَيِّنٌ وَلِنَجْعَلَهُ آيَةً لِلنَّاسِ وَرَحْمَةً مِّنَّا وَكَانَ أَمْرًا مَّقْضِيًّا ﴾ The Holy Quran introduces Mary as a "Siddiqah" (truthful/righteous woman) in two instances: verse 75 of Surah Al-Ma'idah: ﴿ ما الْمَسِيحُ ابْنُ مَرْيَمَ إِلاَّ رَسُولٌ قَدْ خَلَتْ مِن قَبْلِهِ الرُّسُلُ وَ أُمُّهُ صِدِّيقَةٌ ﴾ and verse 12 of Surah At-Tahrim: ﴿ وَ مَرْيَمَ ابْنَة عِمْرَانَ الَّتِي أَحْصَنَتْ فَرْجَهَا فَنَفَخْنَا فِيهِ مِن رُّوحِنَا وَ صَدَّقَتْ بِكَلِمَاتِ رَبِّهَا وَ كُتُبِهِ وَ كَانَتْ مِنَ الْقَانِتِين﴾ In Surah Al-Ma'idah, it is presented as a noun, which is evidence of the permanence of this attribute in Mary, and the intensive form (sighat al-mubalagha) indicates the abundance of this characteristic in her.
