Abstract:
The aim of the present research was to examine the role of the 'Philosophy for Children' program in the form of a research group on the social development of fifth-grade male students in non-governmental schools in District One of Khorramabad city during the 2011-2012 academic year, and to provide appropriate suggestions to officials and stakeholders in primary education based on the research findings. For this purpose, one school was randomly selected from ten non-governmental schools in District One of Khorramabad. This school has two fifth-grade classes, and the total number of students in the two classes was 60, with one class randomly assigned to the control group and one class to the experimental group (30 students in each group). Then, the social development variables of the students were measured using the Vineland Social Maturity Scale. Before implementing the program, there was no significant difference in the social development between the two groups. Subsequently, the children in the experimental group participated in the Philosophy for Children program through twelve weekly ninety-minute sessions, and at the end, it was determined that the implementation of this program had a significant impact on various dimensions of the students' social development, such as socialization, linguistic communication, and self-regulation. Therefore, it is suggested that this program be implemented at the school level.

3. Research Questions Given the implementation of this program and the examination of its effect on various variables, the researcher in this study intends to determine whether the philosophy for children education program through the research community method is effective in the social development of fifth-grade male elementary students in non-governmental schools.
This result is consistent with other studies; including Hedayati (1389), who conducted a research titled "Investigating the effect of implementing the philosophy program for children in the form of a research community on improving interpersonal skills in students of the third to fifth elementary grades in girls' and boys' schools of District 5 of the Tehran Education Department.
