Abstract:
Given that nowadays in most countries, to achieve sustainable urban development, great attention is paid to planning at the smallest urban unit, i.e., residential neighborhoods, this research aims to improve the sustainability level of the Sarab and Sajjad residential neighborhoods in Mashhad. To this end, the concept of neighborhood sustainable development has been identified, relevant literature has been reviewed and studied, and indicators affecting the sustainability level of the studied neighborhoods have been formulated. The results obtained from the survey and information collected regarding these indicators at the level of the investigated neighborhoods were evaluated using a descriptive-analytical method and by combining the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Delphi methods. The results indicate that the Sajjad neighborhood, with a final sustainability weight of 0.794, has lived in more stable conditions compared to the Sarab neighborhood with a final weight of 0.357. However, from the perspective of the classification of sustainability dimensions, based on the opinions of the residents regarding the studied indicators and the weighting of the decision-making group of this research, the Sajjad neighborhood was in more stable conditions socially, economically, institutionally, and physically, while the Sarab neighborhood was in more stable conditions in terms of environmental indicators compared to the other.
Machine summary:
However, from the perspective of the categorization of sustainability dimensions, considering the opinions of the residents of the neighborhoods regarding the studied indicators and the weighting of the decision-making group of this research to these indicators, the Sajjad neighborhood was in more sustainable conditions from social, economic, institutional, and physical perspectives, while the Sarab neighborhood was in more sustainable conditions from the perspective of environmental indicators compared to the other.
The objectives of this research are: measuring and evaluating the status of Sarab and Sajjad neighborhoods in Mashhad city from the perspective of sustainable development and, more importantly, designing an evaluation model to measure the level of sustainability of residential neighborhoods using urban sustainable development indicators.
Hierarchical structure This research was formed at four levels with the aim of a comparative analysis of the position of local sustainable development indicators in the studied options, namely, Sarab and Sajjad neighborhoods.
