Abstract:
This paper investigates short messages، and the language resultant from abrivations made by the young people using mobile phones. Abrivation in language has many types، but what this article means by abrivation is the type the youth invented for saving time and ease of typing in sending messages. They have developed a literature that has broken the language rules، the rules governing pronunciation and grammar of standard languages. It knows no geographical boundary. It has signs of globalization. This research shows that dropping word letters in SMS is regular and predictable; the rules governing it are controlled by two phonological principles of “figure-ground” (Dressler 1996) and “strong-stronger” (Dongen 1978/1985). According to the Findings of the research، phonological principles controls decreasing the length of words in SMS، of course not considering suprasegmental elements.

Sørgård considers the linguistic features of SMS to be as follows: "The omission of standard punctuation rules9 and the use of non-standard forms, the removal of spaces between words, spelling of words according to speech rather than writing, a tendency towards writing homophones, the use of common abbreviations in standard language and their non-standard forms, writing words entirely in capital letters or entirely in lowercase, shortening words, the use of emoticons and asterisks(*) and replacing words with symbols" (Sørgård, 2003: 31).
Christine Thurlow (2003), who is a linguistic researcher in the Department of Communication at the University of Washington, has also raised the following points in her studies: "Shortening of vocabulary, acronyms and initialisms, phoneticization of numbers and letters, failure to observe correct spelling, non-standard spelling of words according to speech rather than writing, analysis- -------------- (1).
Discussion In the language of SMS, although the rules governing pronunciation and standard grammar are significantly ignored, shortening and abbreviation have limits and loopholes, and the reduction in the number of letters in a word occurs only to the extent that the meaning of the word can be inferred and is understandable for the recipient, and more clearly, the "principle of communicability" is not violated.
