Abstract:
Nowadays, Sirajuddin Ali Khan Arezoo is a familiar name to researchers and writers. It seems there are few people in the field of Persian language and literature, whether professors or students, who are not familiar with Khan Arezoo. However, despite his importance, his views have not yet been discussed and reviewed as they should and perhaps ought to be. His views can be critically reviewed and analyzed in various fields such as literary criticism, linguistics, stylistics, etc. In this article, an attempt has been made to examine and analyze one of his views in the field of linguistics, namely the subject of semantics. In this study, an effort has been made to match his theories, as much as possible, with the theories of contemporary and somewhat traditional linguists.
Machine summary:
28) Arzoo also considers the method of acquiring Persian vocabulary to be two methods: mutawatir and ahad: Thus, some of it is mutawatir, such as "goft o shenid" (rumor/hearsay), "khord o bord" (profit/loss), "zad o kosht" (hit and kill), and others, and some are ahad, such as Arabic words found in the works of lexicographers especially words that are singular, and in this, suspicion and conjecture are sufficient; rather, it is through hearing from one of the people of the language, provided there is no error in their poetry and speech, or by seeing them in the poems of a master who was trustworthy.
, 234) And in another place, he writes: The research of the author of this book is that in this matter, usage exists, and the non-occurrence of synonymy is self-evidently denied: for example, the words "kas" (person) and "mardom" (people), and if through the intricacies of derivation, with the influence of metaphorical meaning and secondary designation, differences appear in some places, the principle of synonymy cannot be denied.
Ambiguity or Polysemy Khan Arzu has presented a discussion in Muthammir regarding the use of words with multiple possible meanings (muhtamal al-ma'nayn) that leads to the reason for its similarity to the subject of structural ambiguity, which modern linguists have raised, we examine that discussion under the topic of "ambiguity.
