Abstract:
In the main reference texts of the Khorasan Theological School, the two words "Simple" and "Combined" along with the word “Cognition” (Ma’refat) - in the form of "Simple Cognition " and "Combined Cognition " - are often used to explain the position and levels of God's Cognition (Ma’refat Allah). In addition, these two words are used along with other cognitive words such as "Knowledge" and "Assent (Tasdiq)”.The diversity of these two words’ utility in different positions of these texts has caused different interpretations. In this article, we try to explain indications of these terms according their status in the texts. In this article, in addition to recalling the concepts of rintelect and soul in this school, we will show that the word Cognition is used in a special sense in the literature of the founders of this school, and this utility has no significant history in the books of Islamic intellectual sciences such as, logic, and philosophy. We will also explain what the “levels of Cognition” mean in the two fields of intellect and soul.
Machine summary:
According to many experts and researchers of the published works regarding this school, the reports of the master, Ayatollah Sheikh Mahmoud Halabi Tavallayi (may Allah have mercy on him) (1318 AH - 1418 AH), who was a prominent student of Mirza and mastered deep philosophical and mystical foundations, are considered the most accurate, complete, coherent, and consistent of these works with the views of Mirza Isfahani, which are preserved under the titles "Taqrirat" (in Arabic) and "Ma'arif al-Ilahiyyah" (in Persian) in the library of the Holy Astan Quds Razavi.
To examine this question, we must pay attention to two points; first, regardless of this ambiguity and objection, the late master has repeated explicit statements on this point in his epistemological texts; for example, at the beginning of the pamphlet "Manasib al-Nabi" and as an introduction to the discussion of the stations of the prophets (peace be upon them), he says: «إن الوصول إلي معرفة الله بدرجاتها الغيرالمتناهية کمال بالضرورة عند کل من اعتقد بالله .
However, the veil of the intellect will be removed in another type of composite gnosis called «Supreme Gnosis» (the increase in the levels of the self's knowledge of the Essence of the Exalted Creator without any intermediary), which we will refer to.
The expression of the late Master in the pamphlet "Al-Kalam fi Haqiqat al-Qudrah wa al-Ikhtiyar wa 'Adam al-Jabr wa al-Tafwid," known as "There are three matters," in describing those who possess such success, is "Honored Servants" (Abad-e Mukramam): «نعم کمال المعرفة ـ کما عرفت ـ هو أن يعرف العارف الذات المقدسة الإلهية من دون حجاب و احتجاب ، و ذلک عند تعريفه الله تعالي نفسه المقدسة لعبده بنفسه لا بالآيات و العلامات .
