Abstract:
Religious constructions have a common goal in various religions: creating a spiritual space for prayer. This work takes place in the shadow of religious beliefs and the support of each religion and it appears in unique forms. The purpose of this research is to compare the physical space of the church and the mosque based on the anthropological foundations of Christianity and Islam. The main issue here is to find a meaningful relationship between the position of human in the teachings of Christianity and Islam, and the physical space of the church and the mosque; and how this connection can be used to reveal the hidden and effective aspects and factors on the formation of the physical space of the church and the mosque. My research method is descriptive-analytical and using a library research method, I have collected the information from the sacred texts and religious sources of the two religions. In addition, the physical space of "Gothic" churches and the mosques of the "School of Isfahan", as examples of the most prominent schools of religious architecture, form the body of this research. Based on the findings of my research, the architecture of the church emphasizes the distance and greatness of the Lord and his dominion over the sinful and polluted servant, while the architecture of the mosque seeks this greatness in the unity between God and the pure worshiper.
Machine summary:
In pursuit of the research objectives, first, the position, nature, and factors of human salvation and the relationships between humans and the Lord in the sacred books and the teachings of Christianity and Islam will be studied and compared with each other, and subsequently, the manifestation of these concepts in the physical space of the churches and mosques of the two aforementioned schools will be examined from three aspects: 1.
Research conducted on specific and related indicators in this field has provided the ground for decoding important factors in the architecture of places of worship, and the present research, in completing the aforementioned valuable works, has endeavored to specifically establish a relationship between the "anthropological" foundations of Christianity and Islam and the physical space of the church and mosque.
Research Methodology The present study is an effort toward establishing a meaningful connection between the architecture of the church and mosque and one of the most important religious foundations of Christianity and Islam; namely, the position of humans in these two religions.
Comparison of the position of man in Christianity and Islam (Source: Authors) Selection of "Gothic" and "Isfahan" architectural styles This research aims, after a comparative study of the position of man in the religions of Christianity and Islam, to examine the manifestation of these two perspectives in the creation and understanding of the physical structure of their places of worship, considering the fact that numerous values and factors are involved in the process of creating architectural works, and such studies can only establish a correspondence and relationship between various ideas and the tangible works arising from them.
