Abstract:
Surah Al-A'raf is the thirty-ninth Surah of the Quran in terms of the order of revelation. Based on narrations regarding the order of revelation, and without regard to the themes of this Surah, some consider its time of revelation to be the third year of the Prophetic mission, which is, of course, in contradiction with the themes of this Surah. With the exception of certain verses that are subject to disagreement, this Surah is considered one of the Meccan Surahs. The dating of this Surah, the critique and review of the narrations regarding its order of revelation based on the themes of the Surah, and the comparison of these themes with other Surahs of the Quran, its Meccan or Medinan status, and the reasons for the revelation of its verses, is the subject of this article.
