Abstract:
The best way for accessing the great Quranic knowledge is the study of divine verses both literally and content-wise. To discover the truth behind marriage in the Quran، the present paper has attempted to extract all verses related to marriage، literally or content-wise، and classified them under headings related to marriage. Under these headings، the viewpoints of some interpreters are expressed and the diverging points are discussed. The basic classifications are a semantic study of marriage، the importance and necessity of marriage، the natural origin of marriage، the advantages of marriage، proposals، the criteria for spouse selection، precepts concerning marriage، and marriage traditions in Jāhilia.
Machine summary:
» (Anbiya, 74) According to the verse «الخبثیات للخبیثین و الطیبات للطیبین», it is inferred that dissolute and impure women are for men who are the same; likewise, chaste and pure women are for men who are the same, and presumably, from this same perspective, the narrations regarding the prohibition of marrying a wine drinker and marriage with impure and dissolute women have been presented: ـ «قال رسول الله (ص) شارب الخمر لایتزوج اذا خطب» (Hurr al-Amili, 1409 AH: Kitab al-Nikah, Chapter 29, Preliminaries of Nikah, Hadith 2) ـ «عن محمد بن مسلم عن ابی جعفر (ع) قال سألته عن الخبیثه أتزوجها قال: لا» (Ibid: Chapter 14, What is prohibited by affinity and such, Hadith 3) C - The Nullification of Pre-Islamic Criteria and Class Values Islam and the Quran have never established social status or class values as a criterion in any matter.
The Quran explicitly forbids this act: «و لاتنکحوا ما نکح آبائُکم من النساء الاّ ما قدسلف انه کان فاحشة و مقتاً وساء سبیلا» (Nisa, 22) The reason for the revelation (Shan al-Nuzul) of this verse is as follows: When one of the Ansar named Abu Qays passed away, his son Qais proposed marriage to his stepmother; the woman said: I consider you my own son and do not see such an act as appropriate; however, I will seek guidance from the Prophet (s) regarding this matter.
