Modern Persian fiction also possesses such a combination; this literature also pays attention to issues that are characteristic of a country that has placed its social arena at the disposal of twentieth-century transformations. One striking role of French literature in Iran is that it has made the short story form the successor to the dominant literary form in Iran, which is poetry, and one of the most important figures on the scene is Sadegh Hedayat, who shone between the two World Wars, and his shadow still shines upon the heads of subsequent generations of Iranian writers.
