This research aims to explore the linguistic features used by
female graduates of English, Al Baath University, in
describing colours. Women look at what is going on around
them carefully, while the general view is usually enough for
men. Therefore, the nature of the man is ''totality'', while the
nature of the woman is ''details''. The nature of a woman's
mind enables her to pay attention to different details, because
when she focuses on something, it occupies an area in her
mind that is larger than that of the man's (Kastleman, 2007).
As emphasized by Arden (2010), women have a greater
density of neurons in the temporal lobe, which specializes in
language (Moir & Jessel, 1989). It is widely believed that
women have larger colour vocabulary than men do.
