Abstract:
This study aims to analyze the grammar of linguistic metaphors in Persian based on theoretical framework of Deignan (2005, 2006). The main reason behind applying this framework is to answer the questions “how grammar plays a role in the metaphorical reflection of hand as one of the parts in the conceptual domain of the human body, and to determine the effect each of these levels might have upon the metaphorical usage of this conceptual domain to clarify the point that which one of grammatical levels plays a vital role in this regard. The 2nd version of Hamshahri corpus is used to answer the research questions in a way that the function the grammar shows in the metaphorical usage could be estimated. The findings signify that part of speech constructing the first level in Deignan’s analysis has no influence upon the metaphorical usage of hand as a source domain. What is more, among the components of different inflectional forms of noun in persian, singular inflection is the only significant form in the inflection level. In the third level, the relatively fixed patterns in the metaphorical. l meanings and the free syntactical patterns in the literal levels reflex how meanings become metaphorical.
