Abstract:
Millions of people yearly become homeless due to natural disasters. After occurring any accidents which cause the residential spaces to be destroyed, it is essential to put providing suitable shelter into practice as soon as possible. Iran is always prone to earthquakes and floods due to its geographical location. Despite providing the final solutions after disasters, there are also numerous difficulties in providing thermal comfort inside the shelter. As a result, victims either make changes to their shelter or abandon these spaces. Most problems of temporary accommodation are due to misunderstandings related to situations people experience after the accident. The following research is of the type applied for optimizing shelter and is qualitative in the theoretical studies to provide comprehensive information about natural disasters and experiences of making shelter in different places. For determining the appropriate materials, comments can be made by Design-Builder Software related to optimal climatic shelter for post-disaster circumstances by stimulating and internal temperature tests. The results show that fiberglass, Cork, and cardboard can provide relative comfort conditions by covering the shelter's dome form. Moreover, enjoying imported materials would be inevitable for using vernacular materials and keeping the shelter's comfort conditions. As vernacular materials were not effective enough in the top coverage table, resulted in research findings in the post-disaster shelter, this information is inconsistent with the previous citations stipulating the necessity of using local materials. The value of this research is that the form and materials are considered together to provide thermal comfort. Therefore, it can be said which material composition are efficient in cold climates.
