Abstract:
In OPEC member countries, on the one hand, in terms of economic geography, oil revenues are their principal source of income; On the other hand, in terms of their need for oil and energy to move towards industrialization and economic development, the oil shock has significant effects on their macroeconomic variables. Therefore, the study of the oil shocks effects on macroeconomic variables in OPEC countries is vital. Given the importance of the issue, the present study has used the panel structural regression approach to investigate the effect of oil price shocks on macroeconomic variables, including production, consumption, investment, inflation, and liquidity in OPEC countries from 1990-2018. The findings showed that with a positive shock to oil prices, oil prices and oil revenues increase and, of course, improve GDP. Increasing the level of production leads to increasing the level of consumption and increasing investment. On the other hand, with the increase in oil revenues and the inflow of foreign currency into countries, the monetary base and liquidity increase, which in turn increases inflation through the growth of domestic demand for goods and services.
