Abstract:
The verse 33: 23 (Surah Al-Aḥzāb) is one of the Qur’anic verses with special social function. Since the exegetes often considered the letter “min” (من) in this verse in the meaning of “tab'īḍīyah” (تبعیضیه) and they did not emphasize the role of the Battle Khandaq in this verse, then they could not connect it to the previous verse in terms of coherence and hence they were bewildered. This research therefore discovers the coherence of this noble verse with its context to reveal exactly its social indications. Based on the descriptive-analytical method, through analyzing the linguistic method of “Tajrīd” with the letter “min” and finding its important examples in the holy Qur’an, the paper provides a new analysis of the logical coherence of this verse with the previous. In conclusion, it proves that this verse, in explaining the social effects of “Faith” versus the effects of “hypocrisy,” has complete coherence with its context and extra-textual information. Regarding the linguistic method of “Tajrīd” and honoring the resistance of the Companions of the Prophet (PBUH), it also considers their “Faith” as the cause of their courageous resistance against enemies.

Investigating the Semantic Coherence of Verse 23 of Surah Al-Ahzab with its Context (Based on the Linguistic Method of Abstraction) Abbas Rahimloo1, Seyed Mahmoud Tayyeb Hosseini 2 (Article Received: 2020/01/22 - Article Accepted: 2020/02/16) Abstract Verse 23 of Surah Al-Ahzab is one of the verses with a special social function in the Quran.
” For example, before verse 23 of Surah Al-Ahzab, the discussion is about the steadfastness of the monotheistic belief of “the people of faith” when facing the allies of the Battle of the Trench: “And when the believers saw the confederates, they said, ‘This is what God and His Messenger promised us, and God and His Messenger spoke the truth,’ and it only increased them in faith and submission” [Al-Ahzab: 22].
Ibn Ashur (1973 AD) says: The context of verse 23 of Surah Al-Ahzab and its position imply that it was revealed after the Battle of the Trench, not before it; and if the occasion of revelation of this verse is the Battle of Uhud, it must have been revealed separately from its context and it must be said that based on the fixed arrangement of the verses of the Quran, the Prophet (PBUH) placed this verse among the verses of Surah Al-Ahzab [11, vol.
245]; therefore, verse 22 of Surah Al-Ahzab, in a universal affirmative proposition, praises “all” the believers of the Battle of the Trench [all true believers, not nominal] for their steadfastness in monotheistic belief: “When the believers saw the armies of the enemies, they said, ‘This is what God and His Messenger promised us,’ and they believed in God and His Messenger, and it only increased them in faith and submission.
